Bartu Soral was born in Ankara in 1970. He completed his middle and high school education at Ankara Anadolu High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the School of Business at Saint Mary’s University in Canada and a master’s degree in development economics from the Department of Economics at Dalhousie University in Canada.
Specializing in development economics and international financial markets, Bartu Soral has authored various publications, presented papers at numerous conferences and panels both in Turkey and abroad, written newspaper columns, and given interviews. His book examining global banking crises, “Banking Crises and Bankruptcy for Profit in Turkey”, was published in 2008 and made available for sale in many countries around the world. His second book, “The Never-Ending Economic Crisis in Turkey”, was published in 2009; his third book, “The Wolf Trap”, in 2010; his fourth book, “Change in the Turkish Economy”, in 2011; his fifth book, “The Parallel Kurdistan Conspiracy” in 2014; his sixth book, “Crisis at the End of the Tunnel” in 2015; and his seventh book, “The Economy of Victory Despite Globalization”, was published and made available for sale in December 2024.
Soral began his professional career in the private sector and held positions at Polat Holding and Koç Holding. In 2003, Soral joined the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and in 2005, he was promoted to the position of Program Director at the UNDP. During his tenure at the United Nations, he conducted research on the challenges facing developing countries, prepared policy recommendations, designed and implemented development projects, and led credit negotiations for development projects between international organizations and the relevant ministries and institutions of the Republic of Turkey.
Following his tenure at the United Nations, he continued his academic work and served as a lecturer at Başkent University. In addition, he wrote opinion pieces for the Aydınlık and Cumhuriyet newspapers. Alongside his academic and political activities, he served as a consultant to international firms, provided training, and partnered in various commercial ventures.
Bartu Soral ran as the Zafer Party’s candidate for Mayor of Ankara
Metropolitan Municipality in the March 31, 2024, local elections and finished in fourth place.
